Mission

The SVPE mission is to promote a culture of respect and safety at Virginia Tech by cultivating healthy, supportive relationships on an individual level and collective level. We strive to empower individuals to embrace self-compassion, set boundaries, and prioritize their well-being, while advocating for an inclusive community free from gender-based violence. Through education, awareness, and advocacy, we aim to foster an environment where all individuals feel valued and heard.

Vision

We envision a Virginia Tech community where every individual is empowered to live free from the threat of gender-based violence, practicing self-compassion, accountability, and mutual respect. By creating an environment of openness, healing, and support, we seek to inspire long-lasting change and promote the well-being of all members, ensuring a campus where everyone can thrive in a safe and inclusive space.

Goals:

• Increase Awareness and Education 
  Develop and implement educational campaigns and workshops to raise awareness about gender-based violence, its impact, and how to prevent it. This includes promoting understanding of consent, bystander intervention, and the importance of personal boundaries.

• Create Safe Spaces for Dialogue 
  Establish safe, inclusive spaces for individuals to discuss gender-based violence, share experiences, and access support. 

• Promote Bystander Intervention 
  Implement and encourage bystander intervention training to empower students, faculty, and staff to act when they witness or suspect gender-based violence, creating a culture where everyone is accountable for maintaining a safe community.

• Foster Collaboration Across Campus 
  Build strong partnerships between various departments, student organizations, and community groups to address gender-based violence comprehensively.
