Letter From the Director
Dear Hokies,
As the Director for Sexual Violence Prevention and Education, I am writing this letter to address an issue that affects many individuals within the Tech community and beyond: gender-based violence. This is a matter that demands our collective attention, and it is through understanding, support, and action that we can begin to make meaningful change.
Gender-based violence is a pervasive issue that impacts individuals of all genders. It takes many forms—physical, emotional, sexual, and economic—and its consequences ripple through families, relationships, and communities. No one should ever endure violence, discrimination, or harassment simply because of their gender.
We recognize that preventing gender-based violence requires more than just awareness; it demands an active commitment from each of us. This is a collective responsibility that includes fostering healthy relationships, supporting survivors, and challenging harmful behaviors and norms. It is essential that we create a culture where respect, equality, and safety are prioritized for everyone.
Our mission is to educate, support, and provide resources to prevent gender violence in all its forms. We are committed to offering programs, training, and resources that can help prevent violence, as well as support individuals affected by it. But we cannot do this alone. The work we are doing is only as effective as the involvement and engagement of every single member of our community. Together, we can help build a community where every Hokie feels valued, respected, and safe.
With Care,
Jenn
