Workshops

Consent: This workshop explores a clear definition of consent and its significance in building healthy relationships and navigating everyday interactions. Key takeaways include understanding explicit, enthusiastic, and ongoing consent and mastering effective verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to express and receive consent. We’ll explore scenarios where consent is absent or compromised, emphasize the importance of respecting a "no," and provide resources and guidance on supporting individuals who have experienced consent violations.

Bystander Intervention: This workshop empowers participants to become active bystanders. We’ll define bystander behavior, explore the "bystander effect," and highlight the impact of inaction on individuals and communities. We will learn to recognize various forms of harm, including subtle and overt discrimination, and understand the importance of intervention. The workshop introduces the CARE model (Create a Distraction, Ask Directly, Refer to Shared Values, Enlist Others) to provide practical strategies for safe and effective intervention, emphasizing respecting the autonomy of those affected.

Healthy Relationships: This workshop explores the dynamics of healthy and unhealthy relationships. We’ll define healthy relationships using the Wheel of Equality, identifying key characteristics like respect and support. Additionally, we will learn to establish and understand personal boundaries, both physical and emotional, and recognize how these can evolve. The workshop also defines various forms of abuse and their impact, teaching participants to identify warning signs and seek help. It also addresses challenging harmful stereotypes that influence relationships and acknowledges the diverse nature of relationships across different cultures. During the final portion, we’ll work through a guided paint & chat discussion applying the topics discussed during the presentation portion.

Sexual Violence 101: This workshop explores why sexual violence happens in our society. We'll look at how things like gender roles and cultural beliefs play a part, and how different forms of oppression make some people more vulnerable. We'll also discuss how alcohol and drugs can be involved, and how media and the legal system sometimes blame victims. You'll learn about the impact of sexual violence on survivors and how to support them with sensitivity. We'll cover how to spot and challenge harmful behaviors like misogyny and learn ways to build a culture of consent and respect in our communities.
